Chet Holmgren, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s towering forward, found himself at the center of social media chatter after showing up to teammate Alex Caruso’s wedding in a look that had people talking for all the wrong reasons. The 7-footer’s fashion choice at Caruso’s Houston nuptials to “Big Brother” star Haleigh Broucher sparked quite the debate online.
The White Suit That Started It All
Holmgren rolled up to the Houston ceremony sporting an all-white checkered suit that he paired with a maroon shirt, shades, and some flashy gold chains. While the young star clearly went for a bold statement, his color choice raised eyebrows since white at weddings is typically the bride’s territory in Western culture.
Social media didn’t hold back once photos started making the rounds. Critics were quick to call out what they saw as a major wedding faux pas, with comments like “Why is he wearing white at someone else’s wedding? That’s so rude” flooding the feeds. Some users went even further, suggesting the basketball player looked more like “an Elvis impersonator” than a wedding guest.
He Wasn’t Flying Solo in White
Plot twist – Holmgren wasn’t the only one who missed the memo about wedding white. Sacramento Kings guard Zach LaVine, who shared the court with Caruso back in Chicago, also showed up in head-to-toe white. LaVine’s all-white ensemble came complete with a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, which his wife Hunter documented across her social media.
Championship Celebration Meets Wedding Weekend
The wedding weekend turned into a double celebration for Holmgren and his Thunder teammates. Between ceremony festivities, the young star posted Snapchat shots with his OKC crew – Luguentz Dort, Jaylin Williams, Isaiah Joe, Isaiah Hartenstein, Cason Wallace, and Branden Carlson. The group was still riding high from their nail-biting Game 7 win against the Indiana Pacers, which sealed the 2025 NBA Finals title – marking the Thunder’s first championship since the franchise landed in Oklahoma City back in 2008.
Inside the Houston Wedding
The celebration went down at The Astorian in Houston on August 9, 2025. Beyond the Thunder contingent, several Chicago Bulls alumni made the guest list, including Coby White, Javonte Green, and Ayo Dosunmu – all players who suited up alongside Caruso during his Bulls stint from 2021 to 2024.
Caruso, who’s got two NBA championship rings under his belt, and Broucher had shared their engagement news on Instagram back in August 2024. The new bride used the hashtag “A night to remember” while posting reception highlights that captured everything from their grand entrance to cake cutting moments, plus plenty of shots with Caruso’s basketball family in attendance.
