The Bears will have one of their leaders on the defense back when the new league year begins on March 18. On Thursday night, inside linebacker Danny Trevathan and the Bears agreed to a new three-year contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Sources: The #Bears have agreed to terms with LB and team leader Danny Trevathan on a 3-year extension. Some work before the league year officially opens with a key piece of their team.

Here is my reaction to the news and why I believe it was a good move for the Bears and Trevathan.
*At the time of the video, the details on Trevathan’s contract were not released, but Rapoport released that information on NFL Now.
From NFL Now: The #Bears agreed to terms last night with veteran linebacker and leader Danny Trevathan, and he'll get a 3-year deal worth $21.75M base value and a maximum of $24M. Trevathan gets $14M in guarantees, as Chicago locks up a core piece. pic.twitter.com/wpnEYVQVrH

Overall, Bears fans have been excited about Trevathan’s three-year extension.

There are some fans, though, that are upset about Nick Kwiatkoski’s career most likely ending with the Bears.
I mean ok I guess. Personally I would’ve extended Kwaikowski but maybe it fell through. Feel like this is a big risk he could come back and be a totally different player. That 3rd year could also be bad depending on the cap hit.

Mistake not opting for Kwiatkowski

Damn I thought they were gonna prioritize Kwiatkowski

Still, this move benefits everyone involved. Trevathan gets another opportunity to play on a top 10 defense, and Kwiatkoski will get a nice payday from some team (hopefully it isn’t the Packers).
Re-signing Trevathan was the right decision for the Bears, and this is only the first of many moves for general manager Ryan Pace. He will have to make plenty more to make the Bears competitive for the 2020 season.
