Former NFL defensive back Ramzee Robinson has filed a federal lawsuit against the Kansas City Chiefs, claiming the organization wrongfully terminated him and engaged in racial discrimination during his time as director of player engagement.

Lawsuit Details

Robinson spent nearly a decade with the Chiefs organization before filing his complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri this past Sunday. The crux of his case centers on his February dismissal, which came after the team accused him of an altercation with a female coworker. What makes his situation particularly contentious is his claim that the Chiefs refused to provide him access to security footage of the alleged incident—footage he believes would have cleared his name.

As director of player engagement, Robinson oversaw locker room operations and served as a mentor to players, a role that placed him at the heart of team dynamics.

Pay Disparity and Discrimination Allegations

Robinson’s legal filing goes beyond his termination, painting a picture of systemic inequality within the organization. While earning $125,000 annually, his research uncovered that comparable positions across other NFL teams command an average of $171,932—and that’s before factoring in additional benefits packages.

The lawsuit takes aim at what Robinson describes as a troubling pattern, alleging the Chiefs consistently compensate African-American business staff at lower rates than their white counterparts. This wage gap, according to the complaint, reflects deeper issues of workplace discrimination within the franchise.

Chiefs’ Official Statement

When approached for comment, Chiefs spokesperson Brad Gee opted not to discuss the specifics of ongoing litigation. He did, though, reaffirm the organization’s official position: “The Chiefs do not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” while expressing confidence that the legal process will bring clarity to the situation.

Robinson’s NFL Journey

At 41, Robinson carries the unique distinction of being the final pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, selected by the Detroit Lions. His playing career included 19 games with Detroit, followed by brief periods with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns in 2009. Interestingly, despite his extensive off-field relationship with Kansas City, Robinson never actually suited up for a Chiefs game as a player.
