The pregnant wife of former New York Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari experienced a terrifying encounter with a shark during what should have been a relaxing beach day in Puerto Rico.
The Shocking Attack
Eleonora Boi was wading through shallow waters at a crowded Carolina beach when a shark suddenly bit her leg, an experience she later described on Instagram as “the worst day” of her life. The 39-year-old couldn’t believe something so frightening could happen in such shallow water, surrounded by other beachgoers. Both she and her unborn baby are doing well, which comes as a massive relief given the circumstances.
Emergency Treatment and Recovery
After the attack, Boi was rushed to a local hospital where surgeons worked to repair the open wound on her thigh. Police confirmed the extent of her injuries, and medical staff report she’s now in stable condition. The surgery went smoothly, and she’s started the healing process from what must have been an absolutely harrowing experience.
Official Investigation and Species Analysis
Puerto Rico’s Department of Natural and Environmental Resources has confirmed this was indeed a shark attack after examining the bite patterns. Dr. Nilda Jimenez, who coordinates the Protected Species Program, reviewed photos that clearly showed shark involvement, though they’re still working to identify exactly which species was responsible. While no beach warnings were issued, local authorities have stepped up patrols and lifeguard awareness along the coastline.
Family Response and Future Plans
Boi took to social media to thank her husband, Danilo Gallinari, for his brave and swift response during the crisis. She even joked about wanting to sue the shark and expressed disappointment about missing a Bad Bunny concert in San Juan due to her hospitalization. The couple is expecting their third child and already has a 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son at home. Gallinari hasn’t yet commented publicly on the incident.
Gallinari’s Basketball Journey
The Italian forward made his mark as the sixth pick in the 2008 NBA Draft when the New York Knicks selected him. Following his professional start in Italy, he spent three seasons with the Knicks, consistently scoring over 12 points per game. His NBA career spanned multiple franchises before wrapping up in 2024 after 777 games, during which he averaged 14.9 points and nearly 29 minutes on the court. This past January, Gallinari made the move to Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional, signing with Vaqueros de Bayamón.
