The Phoenix Suns just locked down their franchise player with a deal that’s rewriting the record books. Star guard Devin Booker has agreed to a jaw-dropping two-year extension worth $145 million, keeping him in the desert through the 2029-30 NBA season, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.

Extension Breaks New Ground in NBA Salaries

This massive payday represents the highest average annual salary ever attached to a contract extension in league history. Booker’s deal eclipses the benchmark previously set by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s four-year, $285 million contract, which averaged roughly $71.25 million annually. Booker’s new agreement carries an eye-popping average annual value of $72.5 million.

A Decade of Excellence in Phoenix

Since the Suns selected him 13th overall back in 2015, Booker has evolved into the cornerstone of the franchise. Across his ten-year tenure, he’s etched his name into team history with franchise records for career points (16,452) and three-pointers made (1,424). His offensive prowess speaks volumes—he’s maintained an average of more than 25 points per game for seven straight seasons, while shooting 46.1 percent from the field in his most recent campaign.

Doubled Down Despite Roster Shake-Up

Booker initially inked a four-year, $224 million supermax extension back in 2022. This latest deal underscores the Suns’ unwavering commitment to building around him, particularly as the franchise adjusts to life after trading Kevin Durant.

Team owner Mat Ishbia made his stance crystal clear earlier this year, shutting down any trade speculation with characteristic bluntness. During a March conversation with ESPN, Ishbia was emphatic: \”Never happen. It’s silly.\” He went on to explain his philosophy: \”To win an NBA championship, you need a superstar. You need a great player.\”

Deal Comes Together in Vegas

Word around the league suggested the Suns felt confident about getting something done with Booker, and those whispers proved accurate. Ishbia reportedly flew out to meet with the guard in Las Vegas just before the announcement dropped, sealing a deal that positions Booker as the franchise’s undisputed centerpiece for years to come.
