Chicago Bears Trade Up, Draft RB David Montgomery at No. 73

Ryan Pace again proves that he is one of the most aggressive general managers in football, trading up to pick number 73 to draft running back David Montgomery from Iowa State.
Here are the complete details of the trade:
Bears Get
Third round, Pick 73
Sixth round, Pick 205
Patriots Get
Third round, Pick 87
Fifth round, Pick 162
2020 Fourth-Round Pick
The trade was most likely made to jump the Buffalo Bills who drafted RB Devin Singletary just one pick after the Bears made Montgomery their pick.

Montgomery was a workhorse for the Cyclones surpassing 250 carries each of the last two seasons. In 2018, he finished with 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns to go along with 22 receptions for 157 yards.

Montgomery replaces Jordan Howard and should be a much better fit in their primarily inside zone scheme. He also provides much more utility as a receiver than Howard did, allowing Matt Nagy to be more creative on offense while also not being too predictable.
We’ll have a full write up on Montgomery, and all the Bears draft picks, later this week. In the meantime, you can learn more about the running back and why he’s the perfect fit for Chicago’s offense.
